Canadian Lessons: How To Spot the Aussie.

October 9, 2008 at 5:18 pm 6 comments

As a precaution in the event that hordes of slavering Aussies show up at Canadian Fermentation writting their  indesipherable phrases at us, Dear Reader, I have decided to study up on their particular – and, I might say, insane – gibberish that passes as English over in their colony country.

What We Hear: Full as a goog.

What They Mean:  Drunk or eaten to excess.

What We Hear: Going to the dunny.

What They Mean: Going to the toilet.

What We Hear: Pig’s bum.

What They Mean: That’s wrong.

What We Hear: Doing your block.

What They Mean: Getting very angry.

What We Hear: Fair dinkum.

What They Mean: Someone really genuine.

What We Hear: She’ll be apples.

What They Mean: Everything will be OK.

As you can see Aussies are proud of their insanity.  Well, I’m off to have the naughty…or is it having a blue?…crap, mayby I’ve got the wog…

And what about the nicknames for everything ending in “eee”. Bluey, chewy, uni, etc. Perhaps one of your Aussie readers can explain this to us here in Canada, eh?
